Aren't Doulas Just for Hippies and Homebirths?

You have probably heard about someone who had a doula for their all-natural, ultra-crunchy homebirth. Does that mean that you have to be a hippie, or be planning a homebirth, in order to want, need, or have a doula? The answer: absolutely not!

Doulas work with people planning all kinds of births. People planning to give birth in hospitals, birth centers, and at home. People planning to get epidurals and those who desire unmedicated births. People planning vaginal birth after a cesarean (VBAC) and people planning inductions and scheduled cesareans.

The role of the doula is to provide physical and emotional support and comfort measure to a birthing person. Period. Doulas do not judge a birthing person’s choices or desires. Doulas help to empower you to persevere through one of the most difficult transformations of your life: bringing a new life into the world.

So who are doulas there for? ANYONE who wants dedicated and experienced support.
